Enodian Hounds

black dog photography_edited_edited_edit

These are hounds who are devoted to Enodia - a Thessalian goddess of wanderers, protection, and she is tied to the liminal spaces of travelers.

She guards the line between civilization and wilderness, and was seen as an 'opener of ways.' As such, keys, doorways, and other such entrances are considered sacred to her. Over time, she became associated with Hekate (as well as a few other goddesses), and her name became an epithet for the goddess of crossroads. She is a goddess of protection, hearth, and travel.

Her hounds are called by her to guide those who are lost, and bring protection to those who walk through liminal spaces. They are sentient guards, guides, and companions who will walk beside their bonded person to help their way. They are incredibly loyal to those who they see as theirs, mirroring the bond of hunter and hound that has existed since ancient times. With their connection to their goddess, they can transverse between realms easier than most, and are often guides for astral travel.

Though their forms are bestial, their wisdom is infinite, and they are no mere animals. Ignore their advice at your own peril, for they can often see patterns that we cannot, and their perspective is unique. It is not necessary to worship Enodia to be called to one of her hounds, as her hounds guide the one that they are called to, regardless of their personal religious path.

Enodian hounds are usually black-furred with large claws and teeth, but they can come in many shapes and sizes. As liminal beings, their forms are mutable to a degree, though not as much as actual shape changers.
